Menopause can be a time of significant change in any woman’s life. It’s not a disease or disorder, but rather a transition a woman makes as her ovaries stop producing certain hormones that make reproduction possible. For some women, the transition is smooth and they move on to a new phase of life with few symptoms or complications. The vast majority of women, however, do experience some unpleasant symptoms.

Thankfully you don’t have to needlessly suffer through menopause. For help, come visit the team at Winnie King, MD Aesthetics and Wellness. Dr. King practices a patient-focused approach to health, wellness, and anti-aging therapies. She is a board-certified physician with more than 25 years of experience, and she’ll work with you to make sure your health comes first.

Specifically, hormone replacement therapy can give you relief from a variety of symptoms stemming from a hormone imbalance. Learn more about these treatments and see if they could be right for you.

On menopause

Menopause, put simply, is the end of a woman’s menstrual cycles. It marks the end of her reproductive years and can be used to describe what she goes through just before and after she stops having a period. It’s officially diagnosed when it has been 12 months since she had her last period, but many women experience menopause-like symptoms before this exact point.

Most women enter menopause between 45 and 55; the average age in the United States is 51. The transition typically lasts around 7 years but may continue for up to 14 years in some cases.

The hormones of menopause

When menopause occurs, the ovaries stop producing an egg every month and also slow production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This slowed manufacture of hormones can lead to a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Bone thinning and osteoporosis
  • Urinary problems
  • Thinning hair
  • Sleep problems
  • Mood changes
  • Difficulties with concentration and memory

On symptom experiences

Not all women experience these symptoms, and yet some are more common than others. For example, 75% of women experience hot flashes while 25% of women experience vaginal dryness. Most symptoms fade but some consequences of menopause, like bone-thinning, last a lifetime.

Hormone replacement therapy to the rescue

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the most effective treatment for menopause symptoms. HRT works exactly the way it sounds — these medications contain female hormones to replace the ones the body no longer makes after menopause and also regulate any hormonal imbalances.

BioTE® bioidentical hormone replacement therapy

At Winnie King, MD Aesthetics and Wellness, we use BioTE bioidentical hormone pellets to treat menopause symptoms and other hormone imbalances. Dr. King performs comprehensive lab testing to determine your hormone levels before ordering BioTE pellets that are specific to your symptoms. They are then seamlessly and painlessly inserted just below the skin, usually on your hip or buttocks.

BioTE results

The BioTE pellets offer relief from many symptoms, including:

  • Night sweats
  • Mental fog
  • Hot flashes
  • Low libido
  • Fatigue
  • Metabolic issues
  • Weight gain
  • Depression and anxiety

The pellets aren’t just for women either; they can relieve the symptoms of hormonal imbalances that many men experience as they age.

Don’t let menopause and other hormone imbalances get you down. Winnie King, MD can help with BioTE bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Call or send a message to our Shenandoah or Houston office today.
