In your lifetime, how many times have you seen an ad that claims it can stop or reverse hair loss? You would probably lose count after 10 with creams, lotions, shampoos, and even surgery being offered by many different companies.
When you look at the numbers on hair loss, the reason for all of these products comes into focus. According to the American Hair Loss Association, by age 35, two-thirds of men will experience some hair loss. And while hair loss is often considered a problem for men, it affects women as well. The Cleveland Clinic estimates that 50 percent of women will experience hair loss at some point in their life. Up to 30 million women deal with female-pattern hair loss.
If you’re uncomfortable with your hair loss, you may very well be willing to try all of the creams, surgeries, and other reversal methods. But only one product uses your own blood and growth factors to reverse hair loss and restore hair volume — platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. This revolutionary treatment could be the hair loss solution you’ve been looking for.

What’s behind hair loss?
Hair loss, by a strict definition, happens to everyone on a daily basis. People typically lose about 100 hairs per day. This isn’t a problem if your body is also producing 100 or more hairs on that same day. Hair loss starts to occur when the cycle of hair loss and hair gain is disrupted. Potential causes include:
- Family history
- Medications
- Radiation
- Stress
- Age
- Perms
- Tight hair weaves
- Artificial coloring
The hair loss most people suffer from is either hereditary or from hormone changes.
The power of platelets
Your blood accomplishes a lot as it flows through your body, and platelets do a lot of the heavy lifting. Platelets act as a growth factor to help your body repair and strengthen damaged tissue. In fact, PRP treatments are often used to treat wounds, tendon tears, and arthritis pain.
Your hair follicles aren’t exactly injured or in need of repair. However, PRP therapy can help stimulate your new hair follicle growth or help your follicles begin regenerating cells for new growth.
What happens during a PRP treatment
The treatment will start with a quick blood draw. It’s then processed to separate out the platelets, which will be used to create a concentrated platelet-rich plasma serum. Dr. King will then inject the PRP serum directly into the areas of your scalp where you experience hair loss. The concentrated platelets contain 5 to 10 times more growth factors than normal blood, and immediately go to work once injected. They will stimulate and support your body’s natural ability to grow cells and increase hair production.
Results
Although you may notice improvement after your first treatment, most patients will need multiple treatments. After your series of treatments, you should notice new, fuller hair in the treated areas. PRP treatments will help spur hair growth but are not a cure. Most men need maintenance injections every three to six months to keep hair loss under control.
